Vegetable, Forage, Industrial and Ornamental Plants Diseases Unit

      The main tasks of the department are to diagnose fungal diseases damaged at vegetable, forage, industrial and ornamental plants using morphological and molecular methods, to determine their prevalence and level of incidence, to reveal their biology, epidemiology, and control methods.  

The projects supported by General Directorate of Agriculture and Policies (TAGEM) are carried out in the unit. These are:      

  • Conducting Research on the Detection and Control of Diseases and Pests in the Central Anatolian Cumin Cultivation Areas,
  • Determination of diseases in legumes (chickpea-bean), dry bean breeding studies, development of resistant lines against anthracnose disease pathotypes in chickpea, variety reactions and control,
  • Determination of pests and diseases in clover seed fields of Central Anatolia Region and determination of control methods.
  • Determination of the prevalence, genetic diversity and control methods of white rot disease in lettuce
  • Management of Plant Genetic Resources of the Turkish National Botanical Garden, which is carried out together with the Turkish National Botanical Garden,
  • Studies are carried out on the detection, molecular and morphological diagnosis of fungal diseases, especially Potato wart disease (Synchtrium endobioticum).

Besides, the other tasks of ,diseases subject to internal and external quarantine and  the analysis on soil samples coming from seedling, nursery and seed potato production areas for certification purposes, the organisms included in the "Regulation on the Plant Passport System and Registration of Operators", are carried out by subject experts in our laboratories.
