Contribution to our Country Agriculture

From its foundation year to now, our Institute contributed important aids to country agriculture with its mighty staff. Some of them are given below:
THE FIRST NATIVE PRODUCT INVENTED BY OUR RESEARCHERS: ZIRAY
An attractant called ZIRAY has been gained to country’s agriculture and economy by our researchers and its copyrights belong to our Institute. It is used as an attractant especially for the olive fruit fly (Bactrocera oleae) and the Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata). ZIRAY Production Facility located in Balıkesir/Gömeç is operated by our Institute. It has a capacity of 400 ton, produces average and 200 tons per year are produced on request.   Except operating costs Ziray is produced as a non-profit product to put into service for farmers
THE FIRST INSECT MUSEUM OF TURKEY: NAZİFE TUATAY PLANT PROTECTION MUSEUM
Nazife Tuatay Plant Protection Museum, which has been founded in the main structure of our Institute in 1961, is the oldest entomology museum with the registered international data base of Turkey . In the museum, for the world 555 type species belong to 52 species are preserving., there are also about 30.000 insects belong to 3000 species collected from different regions of our country in the museum.
333 species detected up until now by the researchers in the museum, are new records for the fauna of Turkey. In 2015, being found three new greenfly species (Rhododendronaphis tuatayae, Protaphis kvavadzei, Aphis matricariae) were gained to world literature. Being detected 51 bee species that can be effective in polination for cherry gardens, were contributed to pollinator fauna of Turkey.
A DOMESTIC NEW TECHNOLOGY SPRAYER WAS PRODUCED
In transition period from aerial application to ground application in Sunnpest Control, a domestic-produced air assisted field sprayer which is   suitable for the farmer’s affordability was developed. Its mass production was started with cooperation of the private sector and it has been put into service for farmers ever since.
TRANSFERING TO GROUND APPLICATION IN SUNNPEST CONTROL
With the being decreased damage threshold to 7 nymph/m2 in the Central Anatolia Region, sunn pest damage ratio has been decreased to %1 on average. Thus, chemical control has been made with ground sprayers in the time period when egg parasitoids were affected at least and adverse effects are minimal to benefical organisms
FOOD-BASED TRAP WAS DEVELOPED AGAINST THE CHERRY LEAFROLLER
Against an important species of Leafrollers (Pandemis cerasana) in the cherry orchards   the first food-based trap is developed, given application is carried out successfully control the harmful insect.
ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR THE CHERRY FRUIT FLY CONTROL
Combination of trap Rebell + ammonium capsule using mass trapping method has been presented to farmers’ service as a biotechnological method alternative to chemical control against Cherry fruit fly( Rhagoletis cerasi ) which has zero tolerance in export.
DAMAGE OF APPLE BLOSSOM BEETLE WAS PREVENTED WITH BIOTECHNICAL METHOD
Apple blossom adult beetle ( Tripinota hirta ) in apple orchards are being controlled succesfully with biotechnical method developed by using blue basin.
APPLICABILITY OF ESTIMATING AND WARNING SYSTEM DETERMINED IN CONTROL OF CODLING MOTH IN WALNUT
In control of codling moth in walnut, estimating and warning system has been formed for the first time. It has been showned applicability of estimating and warning system of codling moth  in apple orchards to walnut orchards.
TABLE POTATO PRODUCTION HAS BEEN STARTED AGAIN DÖRTDIVAN DISTRICT (BOLU)
Potato production was ban from beginning 2000 to 2013 in Dörtdivan district (Bolu) where was first determined of Potato cyst nematodes (Globodera rostochiensis and G. pallida). Table potato production has been started in these areas as a result of soil analysis which was done by PPCRI in 2014.
MOST EFFECTIVE ANALYSIS METHOD OF APHELENCHOIDES BESSEYI HAS BEEN DETERMINED
Best extraction method for Rice white tip nematode (Aphelenchoides besseyi) which is quarantine species was determinated. Analysis protocol was prepared and it has been brought into use in Turkey.
ADVANCED METHODS USED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF PLANT DISEASES

In our country, serological and molecular methods to detect plant diseases and immunofluorescent microscopy, PCR and Real-Time PCR technique to detect plant pathogens bacteria has been used for the first time in the laboratory of Institute. Thus, the trade of agricultural products has become  faster and more reliably.
FOR THE FIRST TIME RESİSTANT LINES WAS DETECTED AGAINST THE MAIZE DWARF MOSAIC VIRUS
In our country for the first time detecting resistant lines are provided contribution with the alternative struggle against the Maize Dwarf Mosaic Virus ( MDMV ) which makes losses in corn plants.
