STORED PRODUCT PEST DEPARTMENT

Products such as dried fruits, cereals, legumes, tobacco, and medicinal and aromatic plants that are harvested and cannot be consumed immediately should be stored for a long time with minimum damage during storage. It is aimed to deliver these products to the consumer in a healthy way without losing their economic importance. At this stage, scientific research is carried out to minimize the effects of biotic (such as insects, mites, fungi, and rodents) and abiotic (such as humidity and heat) factors, including raw materials, semi-finished products, and finished products. In this context, various projects are carried out by the department in partnership with public institutions, the university, and the private sector.

The stored product pest department is responsible for control methods such as chemical control (insecticide and fumigants), physical control (diatomaceous earth and inorganic minerals), biopesticide applications (essential oils, extracts, entomopathogens, and microorganisms), controlled and modified atmosphere (CO2, O2, and O3) applications. In addition, publications made from data obtained from research, development and applications are shared with the scientific world.
