Department of Vegetables and Ornamental Plants
The mai
n tasks of this department involve implementing research and development projects utilizing breeding and cultivation techniques to develop varieties of vegetable and ornamental plant species that are high-yielding, high-quality, resilient to abiotic and biotic stresses, and aligned with domestic and international market demands. Collaborations with national (relevant faculties and departments of universities, TÜBİTAK, DPT, relevant public institutions, producer unions, private sector) and international organizations are pursued in the execution of these projects. To achieve these objectives, research projects are prepared and carried out for the selection of varieties developed through breeding methods such as selection and hybridization. Additionally, advanced technological methods such as tissue culture studies, pomology research, and biotechnological approaches are employed in ongoing and completed research projects to develop innovative breeding methods.
