​Egirdir Fisheries Research Institute was established in August 1986  for conduct research around the inland water of Türkiye as directly connected to the Ministry of Agriculture and it was put into operation in April 1987.

Ministry of Agriculture has been restructured  in 03.06.2011 and Egirdir Fisheries Research Institute was united with Mediterranean Fisheries Research Production and Training Institute

Egirdir Fisheries Research Institute has been restructured  in 2013 with decision  Council of Ministers as the Directorate of Eğirdir Fisheries Research Station in Eğirdir (Isparta). The name of establishment was changed again as the Fisheries Research Institute with Council of Ministers decision 06/05/2015 date and  2015/7706 numbers.
