The Institute has an East Anatolian Red Cattle herd which is aimed as ex situ conservation under the livestock department responsibility inside of the the Ex Situ Conservation of Local Animal Genetic Resources National Program. In addition, Caucasian bee that is an important local bee race of the region is conserved, as in situ within the In Situ Conservation of Local Animal Genetic Resources National Project, in Camili District of Artvin Province and Posof District of Ardahan Province. In the livestock department, the local sheep breeds breeding projects related with Hemşin, Morkaraman, Akkaraman (Şavak) are conducted as subprojects under The National Sheep and Goats Breeding by the Villager Breeders Project.
