The bilateral collaboration project titled “Joint Research on the Larval of Tuna in Sicilian and LEVantine Spawning Areas: Sampling Strategies and Data Analysis Methodologies (SILEV)," supported by TÜBİTAK–CNR, is carried out by CNR-ISMed in Italy and by Çukurova University Faculty of Fisheries in Türkiye, in partnership with our Institute Directorate.
The project's “Tuna Larvae Species Identification Workshop" was held at Çukurova University Faculty of Fisheries with the participation of researchers from both Italy and Türkiye.
During the workshop, project leaders Prof. Dr. Sinan Mavruk and Dr. Marco Torri provided information on sampling and laboratory studies related to the 2025 tuna larval surveys conducted in both countries.
Both teams shared their taxonomic expertise and performed microscopic examinations on tuna egg and larval samples. While discussing how challenges encountered in species identification could be resolved through genetic methods, the work carried out in this study laid an important foundation for the species identification key to be prepared in the next phase.
