İGSAŞ introduced the new edition of the two-volume work titled “Türkiye Buğdayları" (Wheats of Turkey), written by Turkish scientist, wheat geneticist, taxonomist and breeder Dr. Mirza Gökgöl between 1935-1939, at a special meeting held at Tersane İstanbul on December 5th, World Soil Day.

At the launch of the book, Yıldızlar Yatırım Holding Board Member Hakkı Yıldız drew attention to Dr. Mirza Gökgöl's contributions to Turkish agriculture and said, “Türkiye Buğdayları (Wheats of Turkey) not only addresses wheat species from a scientific perspective; it also conveys the farmers of the period, their agricultural difficulties and production processes to the reader in detail. Mirza Gökgöl's contribution to Turkish agriculture by traveling all around Anatolia and recording wheat species is not only a scientific study, but also a legacy reflecting the fighting spirit of a generation and their hopes for the future."

Then, our General Manager Dr. Mustafa Altuğ Atalay said the following: “I congratulate İGSAŞ for organizing this important event. This event contributes to the understanding of soil and its fertility. It is very valuable that the book Türkiye Buğdayları, which we searched for but could not find in second-hand bookstores, is reprinted. This book is an ecological, economic and cultural heritage. As TAGEM, we operate with 49 institutes, 300 laboratories and 32 gene banks. There are some of our institutes that date back 100 years. Following in the footsteps of Mirza Gökgöl, we have traveled every inch of Anatolia for 80 years and collected 121 thousand samples. I would like to thank İGSAŞ on behalf of both my ministry and myself for bringing the book Türkiye Buğdayları back to our country."
