In addition to its breeding studies carried out to develop new varieties in different species and crops for our country's agriculture, our Institute also conducts projects aimed at developing barley and wheat varieties suitable for the conditions of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Within this scope, observations were made on regional yield and preliminary yield trials established under the projects carried out in cooperation with the TRNC Agricultural Research Institute Directorate for the development of barley and wheat varieties suitable for TRNC conditions. These observations covered development, disease status, earliness, and lodging resistance of materials at different stages. Furthermore, inspections were conducted in the seed production fields of the Reşatbey variety, which is one of the first barley varieties of the TRNC registered by our Institute in 2022.
Following the field studies, Head of the Barley Breeding Unit Dr. Namuk Ergün and Head of the Wheat Breeding Unit Dr. Gökhan Kılıç visited the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the TRNC, Hüseyin Çavuş, and provided information about the ongoing studies.
