A cool-season cereal traveling workshop was held in Turkey on 2-6 June,
2014. The aims of the workshop were to monitor and evaluate the research
projects and demonstrations on variety development, agronomy, and pest
and disease management, as well as foundation seed production in cool
season cereals carried out in the regional research institutes under the
administration of General Directorate of Agricultural Research and
Policies (GDARP ). Additionally, the traveling workshop aimed at
improving coordination and collaboration among the research institutes
and, overseeing the research studies on-site.
The participants
visited the GAP International Agricultural Research and Training Center
in Diyarbakır, Bahri Dağdaş International Agricultural Research
Institution in Konya, Ceylanpınar (Şanlıurfa), Gözlü (Konya) and Polatlı
(Ankara) branches of the General Directorate of Agricultural
Enterprises of Turkey.
The traveling workshop was led by Dr. Semra
ACER from GDARP. Researchers from the Soil Products Office of Turkey,
Directorate of Plant Production, Union of Turkish Agricultural Credit
Cooperatives, General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises, Turkish
Atomic Energy Commission, and additional agricultural research
institutions across Turkey participated in the workshop.
Researchers
from the Central Research Institute for Field Crops participated in the
workshop, including Dr. Selami YAZAR, head of the wheat breeding unit,
Namuk ERGÜN (M.Sc.) from the Barley Breeding unit, Dr. Fatma ŞENGÜL from
the Department of Agronomy, Neşe KESKiN (M.Sc.) from the Department of
Plant Pest and Disease Resistance, and Oğuz ACAR (M.Sc.) from the
Department of Quality Assessment and Food.
