The studies started in 1989 for the management policy of anchovy by our institute, have been continuing with constant monitoring projects since 2005. Since 2013, anchovy has been monitored by our institute both at the sea via acoustic methods and on landing. The Georgian coast were added to acoustic studies in the Black Sea this year upon request from Georgia. Acoustic research for anchovies conducted in foreign waters for the first time by a research vessel belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Turkey.
In the workshop, together with the seasonal evaluation of the project "monitoring pelagic fish stocks" carried out by our institute and METU Erdemli Institute of Marine Sciences, the acoustical studies for anchovy on the coast of Georgia for the first time via the research vessel belonging to our institute and the impressions about anchovy hunting in Georgia were presented by Murat ERBAY. In the workshop, Dr. Ekin Akoğlu from METU Erdemli Marine science institute made a presentation entitled "Development of Black Sea Fish Stocks under Changing Environmental and Climatic Conditions" and also Dr. Erdal Üstündağ from General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture made a presentation entitled "Current situation and development of Anchovy fishery in the Black Sea". Ian Scott from Italy make a presentation entitled "The implementation of stock valuation in fishing activities" in the scope of the iFISH project conducted within TAGEM and finally opinions, suggestions and evaluations of all participants about the present and future of anchovy which is the most important species of Black Sea were taken.
