The duty of the department is to make social and economic researches on local and national levels in light of the information about the basic principles of economic science. The department prosecutes the internal and external market conjuncture via economic data of fisheries and aquaculture products which are important for the Black Sea region. The effective usage and management of local and national agricultural resources, organizing research and issue activities for solutions to agricultural problems, contributing scientific and technological developments are also conducted by the department.
It is among our duties to organize research and publication activities according to the changing structures and conditions for the rational use and management of aquaculture resources at the regional and national level and to contribute to the development of science and technology in the field.
Purpose and Scope
Agricultural Economics is a science that seeks solutions to agricultural problems by using the basic principles of economics. When evaluated within this framework, agricultural economists have to know technical issues such as the evaluation of fisheries, as well as the planning, management, financing, accounting, business administration, marketing, fisheries policy, fisheries communiqué and regulation, fisheries sociology, agricultural extension. It is also interested in government plans and programs to develop the fisheries sector, improve the living standards of fishermen and growers, protect consumers from excessive price increases, and increase the export of agricultural products.
It is also among our aims to conduct research using new branches of science such as the concept of marginality and the concentration of marginal analysis studies, production functions, gross margin concept, linear programming method, Econometrics, Production Economics and Operations Research.
While the increasing world population and the demand for food products are increasing rapidly, the limited production resources bring concepts such as resource utilization efficiency and productivity to the fore. Efficient and rational use of resources has become important, rather than producing other surpluses.

In this context, situated in one of the busiest in aquaculture production in Turkey SUMAE; Many research projects have been concluded since 1987 and the project, which has been collaborated by different institutions and organizations, continues its activities.
