15 Scientist from Our Institute, Mediterranean Fisheries Research, Production and Training Institute, General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture and Institute of Marine Sciences of the Middle East Technical University will investigate the presence of anchovy in the waters of georgia by SURAT-ARAŞTIRMA-1 vessel during 10 days.
Our institute conducts a study on the prediction of the stock of pelagic fish species that have a economonic importance by acoustic methods in the Black Sea where a significant part of the fishing activities are carried out. In the study, anchovy, horse mackerel and sprat are examined and the biological properties, migration behaviors and life cycles of these species are evaluated.
The Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia has requested technical support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of republic of Turkey through the Black Sea Working Group to investigate anchovy stocks in the waters of Georgia with our Institute
For this purpose,15 scientists and ship personnel from ınstitutes mentioned above set out to conduct a 10 day research in Georgia on December 17, 2018 by SURAT-ARAŞTIRMA-1 vessel that belongs to our institute.
When the ship arrived in Batumi, the three Georgian scientists joined the research team.
It is important to work in the waters of Georgia in order to get detailed information about the anchovy stock, which is shared between Turkey and Georgia as a migrant fish. Research is also of great importance due to the fact that it is the first fishing expedition carried out by the ministry abroad.
