We are proud to announce that our colleague Melike Alemdağ has successfully completed her PhD on November 5, 2024, with the thesis titled:
“Determination of Hybridization and Admixture in Brown Trout (Salmo trutta) Populations in Türkiye.”
🧬 Nationwide Genetic Assessment
Conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. İlhan Altınok, the study examined the genetic structure of 37 different Salmo trutta populations collected from across Türkiye.
Using mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and microsatellite markers, the study aimed to:
Assess intraspecific genetic diversity
Define species boundaries
Detect hybrid and admixed individuals
📑 Academic Output
Key findings were presented at an international symposium under the title:
“Genetic Connectivity of Brown Trout (Salmo trutta) Populations in Türkiye.”
Additionally, the manuscript titled “Genetic Structure, Species Boundaries, and Evidence of Hybridization in Turkish Brown Trout Populations” has been submitted to a SCI-indexed journal for publication.
🎯 Contribution to Conservation and Species Management
This research serves as a significant reference for the conservation of genetic integrity in brown trout populations and will support science-based management strategies for this ecologically and economically important species.
We warmly congratulate our colleague for this scientific achievement and wish her continued success in her career.
