HISTORY

Viticulture Research Station - Manisa was founded in 1930 as an "American Rootstock Production Station". Main purpose of the station was to produce and distribute of American vine saplings to the growers in the Aegean Region. The aim was restoration of the vineyards which were damaged from the vine phylloxera. In 1944, it was named as "Viticulture Research Station" in order to determine to well-adapt rootstock varieties to the Aegean region and to conduct grapevine affinity studies. Then, it was renamed as "Viticulture Institute" in 1968, "Agricultural Research Station" in 1971 and "Viticulture Research Station" in 1974. In 1979 it was renamed "Viticulture Research Institute" and appointed to research viticultural problems and to train and expand the research outcomes to the all regions of Türkiye. In 2011, it was renamed as "Viticultural Research Station" and Institution's name has been changed in June 3, 2015, and it has been updated to its current version as "Directorate of Manisa Viticulture Research Station" and it continues to serve with the same duties and missions.

Our institution's Alaşehir station is located in Yeşilyurt, Alaşehir and is operational since 1985. Institution's total of irrigated area is 83.4 ha. In the central station vineyards composed of 45.4 ha and Alaşehir station's vineyards is approximately 38 ha piece of land. Vineyard area take place in 18.4 ha area and 15.8 ha is for rootstock production. and 36.8 ha is for nursery work and the rest 0.4 ha is for residential area, green fields, canals and roads.
