With the cooperation of Directorate of Pistachio Research Institute, Belkız Nizip Irrigation Association and Nizip District Agriculture and Forestry Directorate, a training on "Irrigation and Fertilization in Pistachio Cultivation" was held in Nizip district governor's meeting hall.
The director of Pistachio Research Institute Dr. Nevzat ASLAN emphasized the following points; fertigation in irrigated pistachio orchards, dividing the total fertilizer needs of the trees by the number of irrigation, continuing the fertilization during the nut fill period, and applying the final fertilization in September after harvest.
The technical staff of our institution, Agricultural Engineer Serkan KÖSETÜRKMEN (M.Sc.), stated that the amount of product will increase with the timely and desired amount of irrigation in pistachio, and that the development of the trees can be improved with the appropriate irrigation program. It was also expressed that although it changes according to the climatic conditions, irrigation should be carried out in accordance with the possibilities in May-September.
Another technical staff of our institution, Agricultural Engineer Nilgün KALKANCI, stated that for analysis, soil samples should be taken 1.5-2 months before fertilization. The samples should be taken from 8-10 locations and from 0-30, 30-60 cm depth. After mixing all the samples thoroughly, approximately 1 kg should be sent to the laboratory.
