Our project, supported by the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) Regional Development Administration, is being carried out in Gaziantep, Adıyaman, and Kilis provinces. Within the scope of the project, various activities were conducted in 2023.

Capacity Development Activities

  • Training on Pistachio Cultivation: Training sessions on pistachio cultivation, including pest control, drip irrigation and smart irrigation planning, plant nutrition, pruning, harvesting, and storage, were organized practically and theoretically with the participation of farmers and technical personnel. Some of these training sessions offered certification. Participants of various age groups attended the training.
Demonstration Activities
  • Promotion of Good Agricultural Practices: In the provinces of Gaziantep, Adıyaman, and Kilis, various activities such as grafting, pruning, fertilization, artificial pollination, and pest and disease control were conducted in model orchards using "Good Agricultural Practices." These practices aim to promote scientifically-based farming among farmers.
  • Implementing Fertigation Systems in Irrigated Orchards: In sample orchards with irrigation systems in Gaziantep, Adıyaman, and Kilis, fertigation applications have been initiated and monitored. This allows for the correction of mistakes in fertilization practices.
  • Intercropping: In model orchards in Gaziantep, Adıyaman, and Kilis, a mixture of barley (20%) and vetch (80%) has been planted as an intercropping practice. The results, including increased productivity, additional income, and soil moisture conservation, are shared with producers and technical personnel.
  • Establishment of Fully Automated Irrigation and Fertigation Systems: A fully automated irrigation and fertigation system has been established and monitored within the Pistachio Research Institute Directorate. This system allows remote irrigation and fertilization in greenhouses, reducing labor costs and improving time efficiency. The benefits of this fully automated irrigation system are shared with farmers and technical staff.
  • Terracing: In Gaziantep, terracing has been implemented in a model orchard with sloped terrain to conserve soil and water. The ecological, economic, social, and cultural conditions of the orchards are considered in this effort to prevent soil erosion and improve the land. Water conservation techniques have been applied, and the results will be shared with producers and technical personnel.
