​Biological Control Laboratory was established in 1965 in the Directorate of Bornova Plant Protection Research Institute and  still operates as the Department of Biological Control.

During the 1966-2019 period, more than 25 research projects on the fauna of beneficials and its distribution, biology and consumption, population dynamics, mass production, release effectiveness and side effects of pesticides on beneficial insects. have been completed.

Duties of the Department of Biological Control:

1. Biological control with pests, diseases and weeds that are problematic in cultural plants,
2. Integrated pest management research,
3. Conservation and improvement of beneficial activities,
4. Mass production and use of biological control agents,
5. To carry out research projects related to the side effects of pesticides on beneficial organisms.
