Low rainfall areas such as Central Anatolia, at the forefront of productivity-enhancing elements right varieties and fertilizer use, next to other an important issue is implementation of appropriate fields soil tillage techniques. By the Institute; between years 1931-1950, in order to find out intricacies of dry farming system practiced in Central Anatolia established fallow preparation and soil fertility trials. In these studies, it has researched such as topics effectiveness of fallow in our region, first tillage time currently is the basis of the applied system in our region. Rotation studies in irrigated conditions were carried out between years 1935-1962.

By the 1980s, by the Institute of National Coordination use of fallow land project carried out with this project in these areas, using peas and legumes such as lentils and vetch cultivation to reduced fallow fields. 1990s NATO-sponsored project was conducted in order to eliminate negative effects of zinc deficiency on wheat yield and more Sabancı University's leadership an international project (HarvestPlus) carried out with 7 different countries where zinc is especially important for human health, research on compensation ways of the deficiencies and it is still continuing.

Launched in 1990 and still ongoing with TAGEM and TUBITAK support, within the scope wheat drought resistance studies continues its works on various morphological and physiological parameters on genotypes. Today, in order to minimize damage on environment of traditionally applied chemical fertilizer within applied precision agriculture technology; foremost the United States and including other developed countries, increasingly started to spread in-season nitrogen fertilizer management systems will grow in our country over time. This purpose collaboration with our Institute and Selcuk University launched in 2007, the project activities have been completed at the point of transfer of applications demonstration studies continue on farmers' field. The project carried out in Eskisehir selected as the pilot region this initiative, it will probably to spread countrywide a close time. On the basis of this system; on wheat production when being applied spring period to the second part of nitrogen, reading is done with optical sensors in field and determined plant need nitrogen and applied according to the reading results. With this approach, minimizing excessive cost or efficiency losses caused by the conventional practice use of more or less nitrogen and also contribute to development of grain protein content.
