Plant Nutrition and Soil Unit

Mission of this department as; to determine the types and amounts of fertilizers which provide the most economical crop production using with field and laboratory studies which depend on soil and plant analysis, to develop new fertilization methods which could create special conditions in the soil, to determine the types and rates of fertilizers to be applied to the cultivated plants based on the micro and macro element status of the soil, to implement studies on soil pollution, quality and sustainability of the soil fertility, to determine and regenerate data about the general characteristics of our region soils, to develop new methods of soil, water, plant and fertilizer analysis and to ensure the use of these methods across the country, to carry out research studies on soil organisms, to illustrate their usefulness in agricultural areas, to create soil database, to make soil survey and soil mapping, to make consultancy on the projects and committees of the Ministry and to participate them actively.

  1. Determining the types and amounts of fertilizers to be applied to the cultivated plants based on the micro and macro element status of the soil which provide the most economical crop production and to develop new fertilization methods in agricultural soil of our study area and that presenting to farmers. In this context potassium and calcium fertilizition is carried out on cherry trees in Afyon Sultandağı.
  2.  Preparing studies on soil pollution, soil quality and sustainability of the soil fertility, to determine and regenerate data about the general characteristics of our region soils. For this purpose A study is being conducted to improve the quality of the soil with green fertilization at What –sugar beet rotation system.
  3. İmplementation of research studies on soil organisms, to illustrate bacteria and other microorganism usefulness in agricultural areas. For this purpose ongoing studies are trying to produce the biological fertilizers.
  4.  Determining and regenerating data about the general characteristics of our region soils, to develop new methods of soil, water, plant and fertilizer analysis and to ensure the use of these methods across the country.In this content the Project Determination of Plant Nutrition Status and Potential Toxic Element Contents of Eskişehir, Kutahya and Bilecik Provinces Soils, Preparation of Soil Data Base and Soil Maps is ongoing.
  5. Research by using modern technologies for soil, plant and water analysis put the application on and spread it out.

    There are five separate laboratories to support the work under this unit;

    1.Soil fertility analysis laboratory; Salt, pH, organic matter, plant available phosphous, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium and such as iron, copper, zinc micro element analyses in soil and also total element analysis is performed.

    2.Soil physics laboratory; structure of soil, volume weight, field capacity, wilting point and moisture determination are analyzed.

    3. Plant analysis laboratory; element analyzes have been done in all kinds of plants.

    4. Fertilizer analysis; the analysis of organic and inorganic fertilizer samples is performed.

    5. Soil Microbiology laboratory; A wide variety of microorganisms in soil quality and in quantity, the isolation of microorganisms that contribute to soil fertility, making diagnosis and applied to the soil studies are conducted.
