Established in 1958, the Agricultural Pesticides and Equipment Research Institute was merged with Plant Protection Central Research Institute in 1987. Our department is run in the B-Block Service Building that belongs to the Institute.
In the department;
- The quality control analyzes of plant protection product formulations, authorisation and controlling, preparation of various plant extracts, plant protection product formulation studies from these extracts,
- Determination of the resistance situation status of pests, mites and fungi species to pesticides in agricultural areas,
- Studies are carried out to determine residues of plant protection products in plants and plant crops, water, soil.
Resistances of pesticides used against pest species with economical precaution are investigated by using bioassay, biochemical and molecular methods in the conducted researches. Various internationally supported projects, mainly the EU, are being carried out in the department.
Development of multiple residue analysis methods related to the state of resistance to phosphine used in the struggle with storage pests, determination of the territorial MRL (maximum residue limit) in some crops, revealing of residual conditions in the water and soil, determining the effect of the process on the residue in the processed products, TUBITAK and university- supported projects are carried out in the fields of obtaining extracts from various plants and establishing plant protection product formulation from these extracts.
In our Ministry's Plant Protection Products Registration Commission, our physical, chemical properties, toxicology, residues, eco-toxicology, soil-water-air behaviors and practitioner effects of plant protection products are examined by our department and their risks are assessed in terms of human and environmental health and the necessary warnings are provided on the product label.
In our department, studies are being conducted to determine the initial toxicity of new persisting pesticides to our country mainly registration for the pests are Aphis gossypii, A. pomi, A. punicae, Eurygaster spp., Helicoverpa armigera, Leptinotarsa decemlineata, Myzus persicae, Trialloridies vaporariorum, Tuta absoluta, Panonychus citri, P. ulmi, Tetranychus cinnabarinus, T. urticae, T. viennensis. The concentration and duration of phosphine gas output of aluminum or magnesium phosphide tablets are determined within phosphine resistance studies in storage pests. In addition, residue analyzes for determining whether the plant or soil is contaminated with the pesticide are also made in our department.
Activities outside these activities are carried out in the context of in-service training programs on "Effects of Plant Protection Products on Human and Environmental Health", "Resistance to Plant Protection Products in Harms", " Residue of Pesticides ", "Hazardous Materials in Agricultural Enterprises, Risks and Preventive Approaches". In Turkey, education and counseling services are provided to institutions and organizations on toxicology and ecotoxicology through the use of harmful threats to public health and biocidal products used in the struggle against these harms.
In our department studies, it is aimed to use sustainable pesticide by determine resistance to pesticides of harmful organisms, developing strategies for resistance management by monitoring and studies for reducing pesticide residues in plant products.
