Fruit Production Department

​Fruit Production Department​ is conducting studies on temperate and subtropical fruits such as apples, pears, quinces, cherries, cornelian cherries, apricots, plums, jujube, olives, pomegranate, persimmon, figs, walnuts, almonds, chestnuts, berries and aronia.

Following studies are done within the scope of R&D activities:

  • Conduct basic and applied research to increase the fruit yield, fruit quality and to increase resistance to adverse environmental conditions
  • Developing new cultivation methods and technologies in order to meet the market demand
  • Collection, conservation and ensuring the effective use of  fruit(apple, pear, quince, cherry, peach, olive, walnut, chestnut, cranberry and berry) genetic resources. In total 1047 cultivars and varieties are kept as gene source material.
  • Developing new Fruit and rootstock cultivars by using different breeding methods. Introduction, dissemination and ensuring continuity of these new cultivars. 67 new cultivars have been developed within these different breeding projects till now.
  • Sapling and fruit production activities continue at some extend alongside the research activities.
  • Maintaining base material, to provide qualified propagating material to sapling producers for the cultivars that we are responsable of
