NITRATES DIRECTIVE GOOD AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES CODE TRAINING

In-service training on "Nitrates Directive Good Agricultural Practices Code" organized by General Directorate of Agricultural Reform, Department of Protection of Agricultural Environment and Natural Resources was held in our Center between 5-7 December 2018. The training was carried out with the participation of 165 technical personnel working in the Provincial Directorates about nitrate pollution caused by agricultural activities.

Head of Department of Protection of Agricultural Environment and Natural Resources Dr. Ali Kılıç ÖZBEK pointed out the importance of the works to be carried out by Provincial Directorates to prevent pollution caused by agricultural activities and gave information about the activities of the Ministry.

Trainers from General Directorate of Agricultural Reform, General Directorate of Water Management, Soil Fertilizer and Water Resources Central Research Institute, Ege University Faculty of Agriculture, Nature Conservation Center made presentations in the training meeting on; nitrate pollution caused by agricultural activities, pollution in accordance with the results obtained in nitrate pollution monitoring studies, land management for prevention of nitrate pollution from agricultural origin, plant nutrient management, animal manure management, irrigation management, determination of nitrate sensitive zones, river basin management plans, nature conservation activities, climate change adaptation studies and Good Agricultural Practices Code.

Speaking at the closing of the training program Deputy Director General Dr. Metin Türker; drew attention that as a result of the agricultural activities that are not sensitive to the environment, the intensive use of inputs and the impact of agriculture on soil and water resources have accelerated the destruction of attention. Pointing out that fertilizer is the most important input to increase the productivity in agricultural production, Türker stated that nitrate pollution is increasing day by day with the use of fertilizers and unconsciousness.

The training meeting was completed with the evaluation of the problems encountered during the studies related to the monitoring and prevention works of agricultural nitrate pollution at the Provincial Directorates.
