Wheat and barley breeding programmes are intended to develop superior new varieties. Target is to deveolop high yielding and quality, well adapted varieties resistant to biotic and abiotic stress factors.
We conduct breeding programmes including both bread and durum wheat. Wheat breeding studies in our institute are carried out since 1970.
Our institute released 15 bread wheat and 6 durum wheat varieties.
We also multiply 13 different seed varieties.
We have two ongoing national projects
1. National Bread Wheat Breeding Project
2. National Durum Wheat Breeding Project
We also have partnership in an international project (IWWIP) which we carry with CIMMYT (International Maize and Wheat Improvement).
