THE WORKSHOP ‘’THREAT FOR TÜRKİYE: XYLELLA FASTIDIOSA’’ WAS HELD ON OCTOBER, 6TH, 2021.

The workshop was held online on October, 6th, 2021 to create awareness among growers, technicians, inspectors and other stakeholders on the emerging pest Xylella fastidiosa threatening many economical crops in Turkey. Topics like the importance of horticulture (particularly fruits and ornamentals) in Turkey;  Xylella fastidiosa pathogen, current world distribution, hosts and potential impact in Türkiye; vectors; detection and surveillance; biological and cultural control and host resistance were presented by scientists from Universities and Plant Protection or Agricultural Research Institutes. The presenters were Dr. Nursen ÜSTÜN and Dr. Fatma ÖZSEMERCİ from Bornova Plant Protection Research Institute;  Prof. Dr. Ahmet ALTINDİŞLİ (Ege University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture); Prof. Dr. Hatice ÖZAKTAN (Ege University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Plant Protection); Dr. Aynur KARAHAN (Ankara  Plant Protection Central Research Institute); Yalova Atatürk Bahçe Kültürleri Araştırma Enstitüsü Müdürlüğünden Dr. Fatih GÜLBAĞ (Yalova  Atatürk Horticultural Central Research Institute); Dr. Raziye ÇETİNKAYA (Adana Biological Control Research Institute)   Dr. Nuray KÖRÜKMEZ (Bornova Olive Research Institute). National Xylella Leaf Scorch Project was presented by Ahmet Yasin Gökçe, coordinator in Plant Health Department of General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policy. The official measures to prevent the entry of the pathogen in Türkiye were evaluated by Hasenem ERTAŞ from the Department of  Plant Health and Quarantine of the General Directorate of Food and Control. 
Many researchers, academicians, technicians from extension services, presenters of growers and exporters participated. The number of participants exceeded 320.
