VEGETABLE AND ORNAMENTAL PLANTS DEPARTMENT

Research and development studies are being conducted foremost on tomato, pepper, eggplant,

cucumber, green bean and all vegetable species suitable for protected culture.

-Breeding (Developing qualified line and half-way material, developing standard and hybrid cultivars, breeding for biotic and abiotic stress conditions, rootstock breeding

-Growing techniques,

-Collecting and preservation of genetic resources,

-Greenhouse technologies.

As a result of conducted vegetable breeding programs till today, 31 vegetable cultivars (6 tomato, 8 pepper, 5 cucumber, 8 melon, 3 eggplant, 1 green bean) were developed and registered.

 

In Ornamental Plants Unit, researches are being conducted on cut flower species (clove, gypsophylla, rose, gerber daisy, chrysanthemum, solidago etc.) suitable for open field and protected culture, indoor and outdoor plants and bulb plants and endemic ornamental plant species notably for West Mediterranean and all around Turkey.
