The summer scientific dives aimed at assessing the current status of Posidonia oceanica meadows were completed in the Kaş-Kekova Special Environmental Protection Area as part of WP4 – Protection, Conservation and Restoration of Marine Biodiversity and Coastal Ecosystems of the MedPROACT Project, co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme. The surveys were conducted at five different monitoring sites: Limanağzı, Beşadalar, Ufakburun, Aperlai and Eğriliman. During the scientific dives, underwater visual censuses (UVC), shoot and leaf morphometric measurements, physical and chemical oceanographic measurements, and water and sediment sampling were carried out along transects established at different depths. The monitoring and sampling dives were conducted by Dr. Mehmet Ali T. KOÇER, Dr. Merve KARAKUŞ, Çağatay ARICAN and Ömer AKMAN from our Institute, with the participation of volunteer divers Hazal YILDIZ, Azra BILTIR, Duygu ÖZTÜRK, Zehra KÜÇÜK, Demir ÖNGÜT and Esra BOYCAY. The data collected will contribute to assessing the current status of Posidonia oceanica meadows and their associated biological communities in the Kaş-Kekova Special Environmental Protection Area, while providing a scientific basis for the conservation and restoration activities to be carried out within the project.
