Responsibilities

Area of Responsibility:

All areas of the country where pistachios are grown

Responsibility Subjects:

In the fields of fruit growing (mainly in pistachio), plant health and soil water resources;

1. To employ breeding and growing techniques including biotechnology to meet market demands such as developing new varieties, improving yield and quality, increasing resistance to diseases, pests and adverse environmental conditions,

2. To increase efficiency in plant nutrition and plant protection with agricultural mechanization and information technologies, precision agriculture techniques or early warning systems, and to conduct research to reduce harvest and post-harvest losses,

3. To register the varieties and lines developed as a result of breeding studies, to ensure the continuity of breeding materials,

4. To create parcels 1 and 2 that will be the basis for certification in the varieties owned, to preserve the base material, to provide qualified propagation materials to the demanding sapling producers,

5. To perform collection, conservation, identification, cultivation and use of plant genetic resources in breeding studies when deemed necessary in order to conserve biodiversity and maintain its sustainability,

6. To conduct research on plant disease and pest management on pistachio,

7. To develop methods and technologies for the effective use of water in agriculture,

8. To investigate the effects of plant nutrients and soil conditioners on soil fertility and quality and to develop proper fertilization techniques,

9. To monitor the vegetation, make observations, prepare reports including yield estimation during the development and harvest periods in pistachio and almond, and to make suggestions to the decision makers in order to prevent possible crises.
